And when I say maintain blood sugar balance, a key aim is to move me off the sugar roller coaster so I’ve a better chance of not ending my day in a tub of ice cream.
I’ve had an all consuming sweet tooth for as long as I can remember. I ran to sugar the way others might run to alcohol or any drug of choice. I’ve tried my whole live to escape it. I finally joined a managed program (called Limbo), where I started wearing a CGM in October 2023 with feedback for accountability and monitoring and a core focus on keeping my blood glucose stable.
A few short months later I was stunned to be mainly clean of sugar fit back in my wedding dress, and see improvements in sleep, blood results, mood swings and energy. To get away from the sugar rollercoaster I had to cut back flours, fruit, and any carby foods deeper than I ever expected, up my protein and eat lots of nutrient dense veg. But with the window into my blood glucose from the CGM, I could see the why.
Now a confirmed low carb convert (who still struggles every evening not to head to the petrol station for a sweet fill) I’ve embraced high protein, low carb living, and stop myself [mostly] from falling down the cracks with creative low carb recipes.
Everything in here is tested on my CGM for blood glucose impact (Link below) and on my family for taste.
